  12. - connect-WSOCK32 enables your 16-bit-WINSOCK.DLL to run
  13.   32-bit-Internet-software on Windows 95« or Windows NT«.
  14.  
  15. - connect-WSOCK32.DLL translates your available 16bit-
  16.   WINSOCK.DLL into the 32bit-address-space, e.g. of Win95.
  17.  
  18. - With connect-WSOCK32 and a 16-bit-WINSOCK (such as Trumpet
  19.   Winsock«) you can use e.g. the 32-bit-version of Netscape«
  20.   Navigator 2.0. Usually you get a WINSOCK.DLL-file from 
  21.   your Internet-provider or Online-service.

  23. - connect-WSOCK32 replaces the Win95-file WSOCK32.DLL
  24.  
  25. - WINDOWS 95, connect-WSOCK32 and your available 16-bit-
  26.   WINSOCK team up to give you full access to the new 
  27.   Internet-features, like Java«.

  45. Please do not delete your 16-bit-Internet-applications (like
  46. Netscape Navigator 1.1), before you're absolutely sure you 
  47. don't need them anymore.

  50. The installation of connect-WSOCK32 for Windows95«
  51. ============================================================
  52. 1.  After downloading cwsock32.zip close your Windows95-
  53.     session. This removes a running TCP/IP-protocol.
  54.  
  55. 2.  Start Windows95 again. Make sure that there's no running
  56.     TCP/IP-connection.
  57.  
  58. 3.  Search for the file WSOCK32.DLL (original 32-bit-Winsock
  59.     of Win95, usually in the directory C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM) 
  60.     and, if existing, rename it (e.g. to WSOCK32.W95). 
  61.     This is necessary to make sure you won't overwrite this
  62.     file. You might still need it some day.
  63.     For safety's sake you should copy the file on a disk.
  64.  
  65. 4.  This part of the installation is only necessary if you
  66.     do not use the original Microsoft«-WINSOCK.DLL
  67.     (e.g. a AOL, GNN or Trumpet-WINSOCK.DLL). 
  68.  
  69.     Change to your Windows-directory (e. g. C:\WINDOWS)
  70.     Search for the file WINSOCK.DLL (original Winsock
  71.     of Win95) and, if existing, rename it (e.g. to WINSOCK.W95). 
  72.     This is necessary to make sure you won't overwrite this
  73.     file. You might still need it some day.

  75.     Copy your provider's WINSOCK.DLL to this directory. 
  76.     That's very important if you work with the WINSOCK.DLL
  77.     of AOL or GNN.

  81.     if you work with the WINSOCK.DLL of AOL or GNN.

  83. 5.  Copy the zipfile CWSOCK32.ZIP to a temporary directory
  84.     (e.g. C:\TEMP)
  85.  
  86. 6.  Extract the zipfile into your temporary directory.
  87.  
  88. 7.  Copy the files WSOCK32.DLL and WSA32SRV.DLL from the
  89.     temporary directory to the Windows-system-directory (e.g.
  90.     C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM).
  91.  
  92. 8.  Change the file-attribute of WSOCK32.DLL to "read-only".
  93.  
  94. 9.  The installation is complete. Now you can connect to the
  95.     Internet and start a 32-bit-Internet-application like
  96.     Netscape Navigator 2.0 or MS Internet-Explorer«.
  97.  
  98. Hint: Pay attention, that, except for \WINDOWS\WINSOCK.DLL 
  99. and \WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WSOCK32.DLL, your applications do not 
  100. use any other WINSOCK.DLL or WSOCK32.DLL on your harddisk. 
  101. If there are other such files, please rename them. This 
  102. applies to WindowsNT, too.

  104. Exception: The CompuServe«-WINSOCK.DLL, that comes with 
  105. WinCim 2.0, needn't be moved to the WINDOWS-directory. 
  106. This gives you the possibility to have two different 
  107. WINSOCKs on your system (e.g one for AOL and one for 
  108. CompuServe). 
  109. T-Online-Users should read the information in the file 
  110. LIESMICH.TXT.

  113. Installation for Windows NT«:
  114. ============================================================
  115. 1. The installation is very similar to Windows95.
  116. 2. If installed or running, first remove your MS TCP/IP.
  117.    The MS TCP/IP can easily be removed by changing the 
  118.    network-settings in WinNT. 
  119. 3. Open the directory \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 
  120.    (e.g. C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32) 
  121. 4. Rename the original WINSOCK.DLL as WINSOCK.MS
  122. 5. Rename the original WSOCK32.DLL as WSOCK32.MS
  123. 6. Copy the WINSOCK.DLL of your Internet-Provider or Online-
  124.    Service to \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32
  125. 7. Copy the files WSOCK32.DLL and WSA32SRV.DLL from the 
  126.    zipfile cwsock32.zip to the directory \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32

  129. Instructions for the use of Netscape Navigator 2.0 (32-Bit)
  130. and connect-WSOCK32
  131. ============================================================
  132. Netscape has (noticed when being connected to AOL) sometimes
  133. small problems with a few Java-applets. The following
  134. settings in Netscape Navigator provide a solution:

  136. Open 'Options' in Netscape Navigator
  137.   Network Preferences:
  138.   Number of Connections: max. 2
  139.   Network Buffer Size:   1K

  142. 7 good reasons, why you should order a licensed version of
  143. connect-WSOCK32

  145. 1. The usability of this shareware-version is limited to 30 
  146.    online-sessions. Afterwards you can't and you are not 
  147.    allowed to use the software.

  150. 3. The developer of WSOCK32 has a right to be paid for his

  152. 4. connect-WSOCK32 is no Freeware. You're allowed pass on the 
  153.    shareware-version to your friends - but you have no right
  154.    to install this shareware-version on your harddisk again.
  155. 5. Licensed users have a clear conscience and get information
  156.    about updates etc.
  157. 6. The information about the licensed version does not appear
  158.    in the version you paid for. You can start your Internet-
  159.    session without any delay.
  160. 7. Navigating on the Internet without licensed software is 
  161.    not a clever thing to do.

  182. WSOCK32, because the developer gets your data in a computer-
  183. readable format, which is necessary to send WSOCK32 to you 
  184. via Email.
